Over the years, many talented photographers from various countries have been selected for Blurring the Lines, including 21 from Dutch academies. With the programme taking place for the fifth time this year, it’s a great time to showcase work by some of these young imagemakers. They work with a broad range of styles and subject matter, and they belong to a generation that looks beyond classic narrative forms and crosses boundaries in its use of the medium as well as in its means of presentation. Curator Jenny Smets is compiling the exhibition.
We’ll be making a selection from among the following young imagemakers from Dutch academies chosen for Blurring the Lines: Eline Benjaminsen (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK)), Marina Caneve (KABK), Sterre Fenna van der Waals (Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA)), Anna Kieblesz (KABK), Gilleam Trapenberg (KABK), Chaïm Dijkstra (HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU)), Debbie Schoone (St. Joost School of Fine Art & Design (AKV|St. Joost)), Frijke Coumans (AKV|St. Joost), Naomi Jansen (WdKA), Viktor Naumovski (KABK), Fleur Jakobs (AKV|St. Joost), Isa De Jong (AKV|St. Joost), Frédérique Scholtes (HKU), Jonna Bruinsma (HKU), Boris Lutters (HKU), Tibor Dieters (KABK), Julia Gat (WdKA), Silvy Crespo (KABK), Zoë Sluijs (AKV|St. Joost), Lisbeth Luft (WdKA) and Daan Russcher (HKU).
SPACE TO SEE, THINK AND LEARN
FOTODOK is an exhibiting institution in Utrecht (NL). Since 2008, FOTODOK has curated documentary photography exhibitions around socially relevant themes and organised events and education programmes alongside talent development schemes for early-career photographers. FOTODOK uses documentary photography to tell stories that provide different perspectives on urgent topics.
FOTODOK champions the power of imagemakers to effect change and the importance of visual storytelling around social issues. Through documentary photography, we present a broader human perspective on the world and give people information to help them make informed societal choices in the future.
BLURRING THE LINES: an international talent programme
With the Paris College of Art in Paris and Urbanautica Institute in Italy, FOTODOK runs the international talent programme Blurring the Lines. Each year, academies around the world nominate five graduating students each, and a jury selects the best work from among their applications. The selected photographers take part in a book, an exhibition and an online exchange program.
The "Atelier Néerlandais" (Dutch Atelier), launched in 2014 on Nederlands Embassy's initiative, is a platform for Dutch business owners working in the culture and creation field. The "Atelier Néerlandais" is a springboard for them to start working in France. It offers them a place to work, to meet and to welcome their partners, and gives them useful advice.
