I said at the time that I wanted to make a film that consisted of turning the 13 buttons on a television set as it went from one thing to another... a crazy television set.
William Klein
Based on the original images and dialogues of William Klein’s film, the photo-novel Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? tells the adventures of Polly Maggoo, a star model played by Dorothy McGowan (model for Vogue in the 1960s), a French television director (Jean Rochefort), and a prince from a faraway land (Samy Frey). The plot is divided between the world of fashion around the character of Polly Maggoo, the world of television, played by Jean Rochefort, and a kingdom of operetta whose crown prince, Sami Frey, is in love with the young model. Crazy criticism of an era and its demons, this film-novel is carried by dialogues with a graphic and playful layout and an amazing cast.
The installation will present prints, still films and ephemera. During the festival, the bookshop will host events related to new delpire & co publications : Vincen Beeckman, La Devinière; and a series of talks events with international authors and publishers featuring a selection of books, prints and special editions.
delpire & co opens a new chapter in the history of Delpire Editions, in continuity with the spirit and approach of "image-maker" of Robert Delpire, its founder.
Located at 13, rue de l'Abbaye in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, delpire & co is a publishing house, a bookshop, a gallery, a place for living and meeting people. It works towards the development of challenging projects, singular photographic writings, encounters between text and image, curatorial research, discoveries of new talents as well as forgotten works, political points of view and sensitive expressions.
