La Vallée is a photographic project focused on a portion of territory between the Loire river and the Rhone river. This territory is a series of valleys, from Firminy to Saint-Etienne to Lyon and was the birth place of the French industrial revolution. The project crosses various lines, geographical, historical and economic.
The images show the different layers of landscape and the traces of its long history. The series started in 2013 and explores many aspects of the territory. It is supported by the Région Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne, DRAC, Conseil Général de la Loire and the city of Saint-Etienne.
After five years of exploration, the project will be published and exhibited in France (Firminy in 2018, Saint-Etienne and Lyon in 2019) and Germany (Leipzig in 2018). Both the book and the exhibitions will feature images in relation with a group of texts by authors from various backgrounds and disciplines. Each text produces a particular take on the territory and its relations with contemporary issues.
