Ségolène Brossette Galerie invites Cinabre Editions to the exhibition Absolus, which highlights the works of Christophe Beauregard alongside the publisher’s books, including its latest title, Absolus. Let’s get high!. This book, the result of a collaboration between art historian Paul Ardenne and photographer Christophe Beauregard, reflects an endless quest for the absolute.
In homage to Balzac’s novel, La Recherche de l’absolu, Beauregard explores the tension between our bodies, caught between the desire for individuality and the pull of conformity, between moments of joy and deeper aspirations. In short, it portrays a society in constant pursuit of hedonism and representation. Taken from Cinabre Editions’ latest book, this reflection runs through the publisher’s entire catalog, whether depicting a high-mountain ascent toward revelation or the discovery of a island landscape mysteriously open to the beyond.
But what is the absolute, really? How can it be defined? What role does it play in our lives? Is it a form of surpassing—physical, scientific, political, artistic, spiritual, ecological, or even totalitarian? Is it a quest for pleasure, ecstasy, an idyll, or a nirvana to achieve, or has it become an obsolete concept?
Three weeks of exhibition, along with exclusive meetings with Christophe Beauregard and the authors of Cinabre Editions’ books, will explore these questions.
