Claire Cocano was named a recipient of the ADAGP's Révélation Livre d'artiste 2025 award, in partnership with the (Made Anywhere) fair, for Rue Désiré Chevalier. This self-published book transports us into an apartment - the one where the artist's Yugoslav grandparents settled after arriving in France in the 1960s. It was in that same apartment that, forty years later, they witnessed the dissolution of their native country. Memories intertwine here much like the embroidery her grandmother spent hours weaving.
Through her own images, together with family photographs, diary excerpts, letters, and identity cards, Claire Cocano reinterprets her connection to this vanished country, crafting a narrative between past and present, homeland and adopted country. The ADAGP is pleased to invite the artist to present Rue Désiré Chevalier in an exhibited form in which the notion of reproduction reworks the spaces of the book and the apartment, opening up its stories to the scale of the viewer.
