The exhibition Histoire, histoire(s) #2 presents work by second-year students in the Bachelor Art & Image program at the Atelier de Sèvres. Through a cross-disciplinary approach to the photographic medium, the students build narratives in which their own work enters into dialogue with images they reappropriate.
Undertaking a documentary photography project today means rethinking the place of images in a world saturated with visual flows. By combining their photographs with pre-existing images drawn from a variety of archives, the students set different types of representation in dialogue with one another. The project thus takes the form of an inquiry into the uses, circulation, and meanings of images, revealing how they help shape our identities, our memories, and our understanding of the world.
This project outlines a documentary approach to photography rooted in the long term. It invites us to question the notion of the archive in all its diversity: photographs from magazines, family albums, slides, postcards, found snapshots, and images drawn from the media and social networks.
This project was carried out within a workshop led by photographer Mathieu Pernot and graphic designer Line Célo, resulting in an exhibition and several publications.
Atelier de Sèvres
Since 1979, Atelier de Sèvres has welcomed promising young artists into its studios every year. Based on rue de Sèvres and, since September 2025, also on rue Claude Bernard, in the heart of Paris’s vibrant and artistic Latin Quarter, Atelier de Sèvres offers its students a stimulating environment in which to study and develop their practice.
The Bachelor Art & Image program opened its doors in September 2021. This three-year advanced program provides innovative, multidisciplinary artistic training. It prepares image professionals with a personal visual voice that combines creativity, critical thinking, and technical skill, through the study of photography, video, and printed image.
