French artist Ariane Fruit (b. 1975) studied photography at the Gobelins School in Paris.
For more than twenty years, she has developed a distinctive printmaking practice rooted in the observation of landscape and its multiple modes of representation. Photography occupies a central place in her work: a tool for exploration, memory and composition, it becomes source material that the artist transforms and extends through drawing and printmaking.
Presented as part of PhotoSaintGermain, the exhibition at Galerie Documents 15 highlights the sustained dialogue between photography and printmaking that underpins Fruit’s practice. It also echoes the exhibition devoted to her work this summer at the Museum of Art and History of L’Isle-Adam (Île-de-France).
Bringing together several recent series, the exhibition presents works dedicated to coastal and forest landscapes, as well as traversed territories. Prints are shown alongside the analogue photographs from which they originated, together with a previously unseen group of experimental photographs produced for the occasion.
Ariane Fruit explores variations of light in forests, the reflections of moving water, coastal landforms, and the memory of place. From Transe canadienne (2019–2022) to the recent series Immersion (2023–2025) and Marée basse (2025–2026), her work invites viewers to renew their perception of the landscapes they traverse, in a space where observation, memory and interpretation converge.
Galerie Documents 15
Located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés since 2012, Galerie Documents 15 champions contemporary art through original prints and unique works on paper: monotypes, as well as drawings, paintings, and photographs. Each year it presents around ten exhibitions, mostly solo shows, of French and international artists, both established and emerging, whom it represents on an ongoing basis. Its artistic line favors a pared-down figuration marked by gentleness, silence, and poetry.
