The exhibition ‘Ephemeral House of Czech Contemporary Photography’ offers a broad range of styles, themes and motifs of contemporary Czech photography.
Will present their most recent works the winners of the “Prague Photo Young Award,’ Marie Sedelmayerová (2021), Matyáš Páleníček (2022) and Zdeněk Píša (2023), awarded as part of the annual ‘Prague Photo’ show of contemporary photography. The event includes established photographers as well as representatives of the new generation - students and recent graduates who are given special attention.
The second part of the exhibition is made up of works by students from the Institute of Creative Photography at the University of Silesia in Opava. This part focuses on presenting various forms of portraits and photographs on the theme of introspection, intimacy and interpersonal relationships. The portraits include those of major figures from various groups, ranging from hunters and firemen to members of the US Congress, sociologically revealing portraits of young Cubans, stylised pop art portraits or an ironically illustrated cook book, reportage portraits, self-portraits, self-reflexive and self-therapeutic photographs openly showing personal problems and traumas. The exhibition is enhanced by projections and books by the author.
Czech Centre Paris
The Czech Centre Paris is one of the 22 Czech centres across the world, whose mission is to promote Czech culture under all its forms. The history of its Paris seat situated at 18 Rue Bonaparte carries a great symbolic value: it is where the Czech national council, the foundation of the future Czechoslovak government, was founded in 1916.
Since its opening in 1997, the Czech Centre Paris has been offering a number of cultural events every year in one of the most famous quarters of the French capital. It is a privileged place of welcome and exchange between France and the Czech Republic, where all forms of artistic expression coexist: arts, design, music, literature, cinema, theatre, as well as the Czech language courses.
